At Flamingo Massage, our Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. Using firm pressure and slow, controlled strokes, this technique is ideal for addressing chronic pain, tightness, and tension in areas such as the neck, shoulders, back, and legs. It’s especially beneficial for those recovering from physical strain, maintaining active lifestyles, or dealing with long-term muscle stiffness.
How Does It Work?
While it shares some techniques with Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage involves more focused, deliberate pressure to release muscle knots and adhesions — areas of tension that can restrict movement, disrupt circulation, and cause discomfort.
Your therapist begins with gentle strokes to warm up and prepare the muscles, gradually increasing pressure as needed. This helps the body relax and allows for deeper, more effective work without unnecessary discomfort.
Two primary techniques are used during the session:
-
Stripping: Deep, gliding pressure along the muscle fibers using the therapist’s thumbs, knuckles, or forearms to release built-up tension.
-
Friction: Firm, cross-grain movement applied to loosen adhesions, improve flexibility, and realign tissue fibers.
The result is improved mobility, reduced pain, and a deep sense of physical relief and mental calm — leaving you feeling lighter, looser, and more balanced.
